This list of Catholic Churches is based on a manuscript compiled by the National Library of Ireland.
This manuscript is appropriatly called "List of Roman Catholic Parishes in Ireland with Registers Commencing
Before 1900". A booklet with this material was also printed by The Genealogical Department of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Civil Parishes are not religious but are units of government. The churches in these Civil
Parish are mostly given by the townland in which they are established though in some cases a town is listed.
The year next to a church indicates the commencement date of parish registers.
We would like to try to assemble a more complete body of information on these sources of early records.
We are trying to obtain a copy of "Irish Catholic Directory" (Dublin: James Duffey & Co.). Which will
hopefully fill in some of the blank spots, like the fact the the church listed for Upper Creggan is
actually St. Patricks in Crossmaglen. In the meantime we would appreciate your help with this, if you have
any information on any of these churches please e-mail us at
